What is the difference between Windows Vista and Windows Vista Service Pack 1?
I have Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and I don’t even know what “service pack” means. Does it change my computer at all?

Actually Vista’s SP1 made a lot of significant changes to the OS. For one, it is a accumulation of the all the updates released before SP1 was released; moreover, it is a “performance pill” for Vista.
SP1 addresses tons of issues that people faced in the the 13 months. If you have, be glad you do. I got Vista in the first 13 months of its release and Vista was a mess. SP1 gives new life to Vista.

A Service Pack is a rollup of all the updates since the base release. It’s usually a good idea to install them, particularly the first one, which often fixes the most problems, after a few weeks or so of shake out to hear what the gotcha’s are.
Service packs usually come in two ways: As their own package to be installed on the operating system or as the full operating system with the Service Pack already installed.
If you have the choice, definitely take Service Pack 1.
Hope that helps.
